Anticipation is building as The King of Kings, the highly awaited animated family feature, prepares to hit cinemas across the UK and Ireland on April 11th. With a star-studded cast of Oscar winners and British acting royalty, the film is cementing its place as this year’s must-see Easter event.

Bringing the timeless story to life with breathtaking animation and a compelling narrative, The King of Kings is inspired by the literary genius of Charles Dickens.

“A Dickens Hidden Gem” – Kenneth Branagh

Drawing inspiration from a secret family bedtime story passed down through generations of the Dickens family, The King of Kings offers a fresh and deeply moving perspective on the life of Jesus Christ. This film unveils a rarely seen side of the great Victorian novelist, bringing his literary imagination to life in an extraordinary way.

The story follows a father sharing the greatest story ever told with his son—a simple bedtime tale that transforms into a life-changing journey. Through vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. Seen through the eyes of a child, The King of Kings invites audiences to rediscover the enduring power of hope, love, and redemption.

Academy Award-winner Ben Kingsley reflects on the film’s unique storytelling: “A unique confluence of Charles Dickens, Roman history, and the New Testament—it is a great story.” As Kenneth Branagh describes it, this story is a “hidden gem,” shedding light on an aspect of Dickens’ legacy that many have never encountered before.

“I’m sure it will touch many hearts” – Pierce Brosnan

The film boasts an all-star international cast, with performances from some of the most respected actors in the industry:

  • Oscar Isaac (Inside Llewyn Davis, Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Dune) as Jesus Christ
  • Kenneth Branagh (Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, Murder on the Orient Express, Tenet) as Charles Dickens
  • Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, The Thomas Crown Affair, Mamma Mia!) as Pontius Pilate
  • Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Gattaca) as Catherine Dickens

A Visual Masterpiece from South Korea’s Mofac Animation

The film marks the directorial debut of Seong-ho Jang (Joint Security Area), with animation by South Korea’s Mofac Animation studio. Jang, a respected pioneer in visual effects, has shaped the VFX landscape in Korean cinema since 1995. Starting as a storyboard artist and later advancing to VFX, he set new benchmarks in the industry. The King of Kings is Jang’s most personal project to date, allowing him to reach the peak of passionate filmmaking. Naturally, Jang wanted to reach a big audience with this film, and he is proud to say that “Despite being a low-budget movie, the actors were willing to participate without receiving a lot of money … they understood the meaning of this work.”
