JUST sometimes things come together and you enjoy a perfect day. So it was when those awfully nice people at Maserati invited yours truly to a recent driving event in North Yorkshire.

In glorious March sunshine I found myself behind the wheel of a Maserati MC20 complete with ‘scissor’ doors and vivid yellow paintwork.

Now this is not a car for the faint-hearted with several optional extras (including that £9k paint job) pushing it’s on the road price towards £300k. And then there’s the performance – 0 to 62 in a blistering 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 202mph plus.

All that power (630bhp) comes from a twin turbo V6 engine that plays a petrol head symphony which was certainly music to my ears.

Also amongst the line-up on offer at the sumptuous stately home style country hotel was the Grecale SUV range and more recently launched GranTurismo Folgore, an 800v EV which too can crack 0 to 62 in under 3 seconds, plus its petrol fuelled sibling with a slightly less powerful V6 turbo power plant.

Still north of £179k these GT tourers are the last word in luxury with a vast range of optional features to make the car even more personalised.

It was certainly the way to waft along country lanes and A roads drawing admiring glances from other drivers as we (carefully) put these thoroughbreds through their paces whilst trying to make sure our driving licences remained unblemished.

So once again it was time to dream of big lottery wins and jealous neighbours – now where did I put that ticket…
